KookaBrain legal
Privacy Policy
This is a draft pending legal review. It describes the app's actual data handling as accurately as we can, but it is not legal advice and has not been reviewed by a lawyer.
KookaBrain is an iOS app that helps you remember what you learn from AI conversations. This policy explains what the app collects, why, and who it goes to. It covers the KookaBrain iOS app and this website.
What we collect
Account information
When you create an account we store your email address and an account identifier. Authentication is handled by Amazon Cognito, an AWS service. If you use Sign in with Apple, Apple may provide a private relay email address instead of your real one, and we store whatever Apple sends us.
What you create in the app
Your notes, saved answers, review cards, and review history. These are stored in a database on your device and synchronised to our servers so they survive reinstalling the app or moving to a new device. Your login credentials are held in the operating system's own secure keystore, not in the app's own storage.
Chat content
Messages you send to the assistant are transmitted to a third-party large language model provider in order to generate a reply and to draft review cards. Do not put information in a chat that you would not want processed by a third party—passwords, financial details, medical records, or anyone else's personal information.
Usage analytics
We use PostHog to record how the app is used: screens opened, features tapped, review sessions started and completed. This is tied to your account identifier. We use it to work out which parts of the app help and which do not.
Crash reports
We use Sentry to collect diagnostic information when the app crashes or errors: the error, a stack trace, your device model, and your OS version.
Notifications
Review reminders are scheduled locally, on your device. The app is built without the push-notification entitlement, so there is no push token and we cannot send you a notification from our servers.
What we do not do
- We do not sell your personal information.
- We do not show advertising, and we do not share your data with advertising networks or data brokers.
- We do not use your content to train our own models.
Who your data goes to
We share data with service providers only to the extent they need it to run the app:
- Amazon Web Services—authentication, servers, storage.
- Supabase—application data storage.
- Our large language model provider—chat content, to generate replies.
- PostHog—usage analytics.
- Sentry—crash diagnostics.
- Apple—app distribution, and subscription billing if you subscribe.
Some of these providers operate outside Australia, so your information may be processed overseas. We may also disclose information where the law requires it.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and your content for as long as your account exists. Analytics and crash data are retained on our providers' standard schedules, which are measured in months rather than years.
Deleting your account
To have your account and its contents deleted, email support@kookabrain.app from the address on the account. We will delete your account data within 30 days and confirm when it is done. Deleting the app from your device removes the on-device copy but does not by itself delete your account.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email support@kookabrain.app. If you are in Australia and you are unhappy with how we have handled a privacy complaint, you can escalate it to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
Children
KookaBrain is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has given us personal information, email us and we will delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the effective date at the top. If a change materially affects how we handle your information, we will tell you in the app.
